Spalding 2’s vs Bourne Deeping 2’s
A rather temperate afternoon saw Spalding 2’s looking to continue their recent form away at Glinton.
As the game pushed back, Bourne had the majority of the ball forcing Spalding to dig in for the first ten minutes which saw some good saves from Rob Callaby as well as some good blocks from the defenders. Despite this, Spalding managed to find some chances and from some good passing down the wings, Tim Maltby was able to collect the ball in the D and find the bottom corner to put Spalding in the lead, 1-0. After the goal Spalding found their rhythm playing some nice hockey, creating more and more chances with growing confidence. It didn’t take too long for James Grant to fire the ball at the keeper and Matt Pottle to claim the rebound to double Spalding’s lead. The intensity didn’t stop and within 5 minutes of his last goal, Matt Pottle once again found himself in possession of the ball on the top of the D where he whipped the ball into the bottom corner, 3-0 halftime.
After the halftime break Spalding picked up from where they left off, playing fluid hockey and finding the spaces out wide with some good performances from Brendan Atkin and Tiago Read and after some silky passing around and into the D, Tim Maltby found the gap under the goal keeper to increase Spaldings lead, 4-0. Once again Spalding progressed through the wide areas this time winning a short corner which was saved just before Brendan Atkin’s shot deflected in adding a new player to the score sheet. It wasn’t too long after Spaldings 5th goal when Tom Pilgrim was brought down inside the D awarding Spalding with a penalty stroke and giving Matt Pottle a chance to finish the game with a Hat Trick. And although Pottle missed the mark earlier in the season this time he corrects his mistake by finding the correct side of the post to seal the game 6-0. Man of the match, Matt Pottle. DoD Tom Pilgrim.
