Spalding Men’s 2s entertained Cambridge University’s Men’s 3s at Glen Park in the first home fixture of the season hoping to secure their first points of the season. Spalding started well and quickly found there passing game but failed to break through the disciplined Cambridge defenders. Cambridge started to get into the game and pushed Spalding back winning a few penalty corners but failed to convert and at the midpoint of the half Spalding took the lead through a Steve Rogers finish. This spurred Spalding on and after a good spell of pressure they were rewarded with Steve Rogers converting a penalty corner to give Spalding a 2-0 advantage to take into the break. The second half was a pretty even affair with both teams having spells in the half which should of seen more goals added but the keepers stayed strong especially Spalding keeper Rob Callaby who made a great double save to deny a certain goal. The game ended with Spalding securing the 3 points and the new younger squad gaining more confidence to take into the next few matches.
