Spalding Ladies 2’s wrapped up their league campaign with a solid 2-2 draw against St Ives 2’s, picking up the point they needed to finish 7th.
Spalding got off to a great start, taking the lead after 10 minutes thanks to a lovely bit of team play finished off by Kelly Cooper. St Ives hit back quickly though, equalising on 15 minutes before taking the lead just five minutes later from a penalty corner to make it 2-1.
The second half saw Spalding dig deep and keep pushing, and their efforts paid off in the 53rd minute when Chloe P slotted home from open play to level things up.
It was a hard-fought final stretch, with plenty of effort from everyone. Kate Amess picked up a green card in the 62nd minute for some clumsy contact – one of those moments!
Spalding had to stay strong at the back towards the end, and Holly Gleave came up with some superb goal-line defending to deny St Ives and make sure the scores stayed level.
Both sides pushed for a winner, but it wasn’t to be, and the game finished 2-2 – enough to secure Spalding 7th place in the league.
Player of the Match goes to Kelly Cooper for a brilliant performance in midfield, and Doughnut of the Day goes to Kate Amess for her card👏🏻🍩
