Spalding travelled to Wisbech basking in the sunshine and the knowledge that promotion had already been secured.
They started their final game of the season with an absolute flyer when a deft pass by Kelly Tizzano to Jessica Pilgrim on the right wing saw the youngster fly past the defenders with ease before squaring the ball to Lucy McClements in front of goal who finished neatly with just 24 seconds on the clock.
Pilgrim scored Spalding’s second just 8 minutes later when she pounced on a loose pass by the defence before slotting the ball past the keeper. McClements then picked up her second tapping home a rebound after Khloe Brewster’s initial strike was saved by the home keeper.
With just 20 minutes on the clock, Spalding killed off the game when a superb passing move started by centre back Kirsty Gammons, led to a trademark Sam Foston dribble and shot to give the visitors a 4-0 lead. Despite creating more chances and rolling through their substitutions with their 16-player squad, the score line remained unchanged into half time.
From the restart, the youngest members of the squad set up to create more chances including a penalty corner, sadly these chances were kept out by the Wisbech keeper and errant shooting!
However, the scoring was not yet finished and McClements rounded off a fine hat-trick when another dash down the right wing by player-of-the-match Pilgrim saw her play the ball across to the waiting forward. 5-0 became 6-0 minutes later when a Georgina Gray penalty corner strike seemed to have been cleared before Pilgrim hooked the ball back into play for Lucy Wilson to punish the defence.
Not to be outdone, Foston scored her second and Spalding’s seventh as she created space in the D before beating the keeper for pace with her strike.
A fantastic 7-0 performance capped off a great season for the Ladies’ 3s who have gone from strength to strength as the season has gone on. Now they must continue to improve as they move into Division 4NW next season.
