Match Report: Spalding Men’s 4s vs Bourne Deeping Men’s 3s
Spalding Men’s 4s welcomed Bourne Deeping Men’s 3s to their home pitch in Glen Park for a tough match against a very experienced and strong opposition.
Bourne Deeping started the game confidently, using their experience and strength to control the early stages. Their attacking play caused Spalding plenty of problems, and the Spalding defence had to work extremely hard to deal with the pressure. Bourne Deeping created several short corners, keeping the defence under constant pressure.
Goalkeeper Steve Thurlbourne was kept busy throughout the match and made several important saves to keep Bourne Deeping from extending their lead further. Up front, Sam Willerton worked tirelessly, pressing the opposition defence and chasing down every ball. Both Sam and Steve were standout performers for Spalding, with Sam just edging out Steve to be named Player of the Match.
Despite the defensive efforts, Bourne Deeping scored several well-worked goals in the first half, taking a 4–0 lead into half time.
Spalding came out in the second half determined not to give up and showed much more resilience. The defence tightened up, the midfield battled hard, and the team created some promising attacking moments. Will Clark displayed excellent ball control, while the younger players—Isaac Davidson, Matthew Dorsett, and Jake Sawyer—put in huge efforts, with Jake coming close to scoring on one occasion.
Bourne Deeping added two more goals in the second half to secure a 6–0 victory, but Spalding can take positives from their determination and improved second-half performance.
