COP 3s 3 – 3 Spalding 1s

Spalding travelled to Peterborough looking to continue there winning run and potentially wrap up promotion.

Spalding and Peterborough both played an open expansive first half of hockey with teams having chances at each end but found keepers in fine form. Jacob Baker came close twice in the first half and some last ditch defending prevented Spalding from taking the lead. Peterborough grew into the game but Oscar Haunch and the defence held firm. Spalding ended the half the better team but went in at 0-0.

Peterborough started the stronger of the two teams in the second half and was rewarded with two quick fire goals. The first a smart finish inside the D and the second a penalty corner that Haunch could only partially get a stick on.

Spalding continued to play the way they have all season and a turnover on top of the D saw COP go into a 3-0 lead with 18 minutes left to play.

Spalding kept there calm and a relentless last quarter of the game saw the produce a comeback. Two quick fire penalty corners by Stu Cunnington brought the game back to 3-2.

Both teams received green cards as the game became stretched. Spalding continued to show desire and believe and with 6 minutes of the game left a stunning 50yard run by Will Wright saw him take out the defence and slide the ball through to James Grant who finished off to bring the game to 3-3.

A resolute last 5minutes of defending saw the  game end in a draw. Spalding remain unbeaten in the league and will look to wrap up promotion at home next week.
