Report: 2nd XI Ladies vs Cambs City 6s – December 06, 2025

Published by Vicky Worrall on

Spalding began the match with intensity and purpose, immediately establishing control and putting Cambridge City 6s under pressure. Their early dominance paid off 11 minutes in, when Kate Amess drove into the D and forced a defender’s foot, earning a well-deserved penalty corner. From the resulting set piece, Amy Naylor executed a clean straight strike, firing the ball into the bottom corner to give Spalding a 1–0 lead.
Cambridge City responded with increasing pressure of their own, forcing Spalding’s defence to stay sharp. A crucial moment came when Holly Gleave produced a goal-line save to keep her side ahead. Despite Spalding’s resilience, Cambridge City managed to equalise just before halftime.
The second half saw City come out with renewed energy, and they capitalised by scoring two further goals. Though the final scoreline fell 3–1 in Cambridge’s favour, it didn’t reflect the quality of Spalding’s performance. The team showed impressive connection, determination, and work rate throughout the match.
A standout performance came from Holly Gleave, whose defensive heroics and composure earned her a thoroughly deserved Player of the Match award.
