Report: 4th XI Men vs City of Peterborough 6s – December 06, 2025
Spalding Fourths, sponsored by Ashwood Homes, final game of 2025 couldn’t have been harder on paper as they travelled to league leaders City of Peterborough Sixths.
Short of key players, the side were indebted to goalkeeper Rob Callaby making a series of fine saves, however the side put in a superb performance as they kept their free scoring hosts who had scored 52 goals in 11 games at bay. Everyone in the side worked hard for the ball and played some good hockey against a very experienced, skilful Peterborough team.
The first half scoresheet was looking to be blank with 30 seconds of the game remaining, but a cruel bit of luck saw the ball put in the top corner on the third attempt following a short corner and Spalding were one down at the break.
The second half saw more of the same pressure with Peterborough converting another three goals to make the final scoreline four-nil to the home side.
But there were a lot of positives from the game with valuable experience being gained by the junior members of the side, playing against two ex-national league players and players who had played against the Maroons second XI not so long ago. The team go into the Christmas break ninth in the table and recommence with a game against Wisbech 3rds on 10th January.
