Match report:
Spalding fought fiercely against Newmarket 2s, and were forced to both play on a wet pitch due to terrible weather conditions, making it an advantage and disadvantage for both teams.
Spalding started with good possession of the ball within the first few minutes, but were immediately surprised by Newmarket’s explosive attack  leading to a short corner, which  ultimately placed them up by one. Spalding were able to turn the tides however, after Brendon slipped in into the corner of the goal after a tremendous short corner within the first 10 minutes, aided by our attacking short team. Both teams were at an even playing field from then on, with Newmarket creating wonderful passes and Spalding being able to intercept them.  Unfortunately, Newmarket was able to sneak in another goal after a short corner leading the score to become 2-1. Dylan’s great interception from Newmarket created an excellent comeback for Spalding, with his exceptional dribbling skills and was able to slot the ball in. Newmarket was unable to let that go and, before half time, they managed to create another goal oppertunity and succeeded in making that goal.
During the half time break, Spalding were able to focus on their weaknesses pointed out by our Coach Podder, including the empty space on the left wing which could be utilised, and with this information, Spalding walked back onto the pitch with great determination and perseverance.
During the entirety of the second half, both teams were evenly tied in skill and actions, creating space, taking control of the ball, passing and making upgrades such as short corners which could lead to a succeeding goal for either teams. Although during the match, Clive managed to earn himself a green card which left our defences weakened for two minutes. Shortly after that, Brendon had unfortunately gotten a yellow card after trying to obtain the ball from the opposition.
Spalding fought courageously towards the end and no goals were made during the second half, making the final score 3-2 to Newmarket.
