🏑 Match Report: Spalding Ladies 2’s 5 – 0 City of Peterborough Ladies 4’s
Spalding Ladies 2’s came into today’s fixture determined to bring home some points – and they certainly delivered! From the first whistle, the team came out attacking hard, setting the tone for a confident and dominant display.
It took just three minutes for Spalding to break the deadlock, with Grace Hodgett firing home the opener to give her side an early lead. The number three seemed to be our lucky charm today, as by half-time Spalding were 3–0 up, thanks to further goals in the 13th and 23rd minutes by Elise Hatton and another one for Grace, following lovely combination play from Callie Priestley, Emily Wright and Lily Hooker, whose teamwork through midfield was a joy to watch.
A positive half-time talk urged the team to stay united, keep pressing, and fight for every ball — and they did just that.
The second half became a little fiery, with plenty of energy and commitment on both sides. A particularly feisty exchange led to Callie’s shorts meeting an unfortunate end, and a City player receiving a yellow card in the 42nd minute, leaving the opposition down to ten players.
Spalding wasted no time in taking advantage. Just six minutes later, Steph Wilson sent a brilliant ball into the D, where Hodgett was ready and waiting to slot it home for her hat-trick in the 48th minute.
The final word went to Lily Hooker, whose relentless running and persistence all match was finally rewarded with a well-deserved goal in the 68th minute, sealing a comprehensive 5–0 victory.
Spalding had more chances to convert throughout the match, with Emily Wright, Callie Preistley and Vicky Worrall coming agonisingly close on a few occasions.
Special mention goes to Steph Wilson, Leanne Isaac-Pick, and Callie Preistley for keeping the centre of the pitch strong and composed, and to the defensive unit Poppy Hooker, Holly Gleave, Sam Maltby and Lauren Grimer who were absolutely outstanding, ensuring a well-earned clean sheet. Our veteran goalkeeper, Christine Dewing, may not have touched the ball all game, but her encouragement, organisation, and half-time pep talk proved invaluable.
🎯 Players of the Match:
Lily – for her tireless play in midfield and down the left flank.
Grace – for her fantastic hat-trick and sharp finishing.
🍩 Donut of the Day:
Vicky, for the spectacular moment, her stick decided to take flight across the pitch!
A brilliant all-around team performance — five goals, a clean sheet, and smiles all round. Bring on the next match!
