It was a tough first half for the squad, going 4–0 down despite creating plenty of chances. Spalding had four or five solid shots on goal and a few one-on-ones with the keeper but luck just wasn’t on their side. Big efforts from Honor and Charlotte up front, but the ball just wouldn’t hit the back of the net.
After a halftime regroup and a switch in structure, Spalding came out fighting. A brilliant pass up to Player of the Match Honor Moore led to a cracking goal to get Spalding on the scoreboard. From there, the midfield worked tirelessly to keep possession and drive play forward, creating more chances with great transitions.
Next up, Charlotte Maplethorpe showed off some top-tier skill getting past the keeper and slotting home Spalding’s second, a beautifully worked goal!
Sadly, St Neots grabbed one back from a very questionable short corner to make it 5–2. In the final minutes, things got spicy: the umpires pulled out the cards, with one for a St Neots player followed by a rather undeserved one for Spalding’s very own doughnut of the day Lauren Spenceley.
A tough result but loads of positives. Great fight, brilliant teamwork, and plenty to build on next time.
