Report: 3rd XI Men vs March Town 2s – October 18, 2025
Spalding 3s travelled away to face a strong and experienced March Town 2s side in a competitive fixture on Saturday afternoon. The opening five minutes were evenly balanced, with both teams settling quickly and showing good structure.
March were the first to break the deadlock, capitalising on a fast counterattack with a well-placed finish. They soon took control of possession, moving the ball confidently across the pitch, and doubled their lead shortly after with another composed strike.
Despite the setback, goalkeeper Eddie Sawyer produced several outstanding saves to keep Spalding in contention. The visitors responded well, earning two short corners but were unlucky not to find the net. Elliot Ashton made several dangerous runs down the middle, consistently threatening the March defence but unable to connect with a teammate in the D.
Spalding’s persistence paid off when Dylan Hind took a quick free hit and drove directly into the D, where Jake Sawyer seized on a moment of defensive confusion to calmly slot the ball past the keeper. The sides went into half-time with March leading 2–1, and both teams showing determination to push on.
The second half began with Spalding showing renewed confidence and sharper passing. Defenders Kevin, Perky, and Lorenzo held firm under pressure, while Tim, Dylan, and Tom linked up well through midfield. Cheston dropped deeper to support defensively and help manage March’s attacking threat.
March continued to press and had two goals disallowed for infringements before finally adding a third late in the game to secure the result. Spalding fought right to the end, winning two more short corners but were again unable to convert.
