Report: 4th XI Men vs City of Peterborough 6s – September 20, 2025

Published by Mark Rogers on

Spalding Men’s 4s began their season at home with a tough opener against a strong and well-drilled City of Peterborough 6s side. From the outset, Peterborough showed their pace and experience, pressing high and scoring their first goal early in the match.

By halftime, Peterborough had taken a 5–0 lead despite determined defending from Spalding. The second half followed a similar pattern, with Spalding working hard to break forward when opportunities arose but struggling to convert pressure into shots on target.

Peterborough’s attacking play proved too much, and by full time they ran out 11–0 winners. Spalding, however, took positives from the match — particularly the resilience shown to keep working until the final whistle. There were strong performances from James Giles, Dave Burrell and Henry Gibbons, who worked tirelessly to push the team forward. For the youngsters in the squad, it was a valuable learning experience and a chance to test themselves at a higher level.

Although the result was a harsh one, the squad can take encouragement from their determination and team spirit, with plenty to build on as the season progresses.

Man of the Match was Kevin Sawyer for his tireless work in defence, standing strong under constant pressure.
