Spalding Men’s 1’s vs Cambridge City 2s
On a bright afternoon at glenn park, Spalding lined up for their last game of the season at promotion candidates Camridge City 2s.
The game started at a slow pace with Cambridge reserving energy, only travelling with 11.
Some open, end-to-end play lead to chances with Cambridge making the most, taking the lead in the 4th minute, following in after a good save from Oscar Haunch.
The first half remained 1-0 with patient play from both teams leading to few opportunities for both sides. Both Cambridge and Spalding had opportunities at short corners but we’re unsuccessful.
The second half was more open with some clear chances appearing for both sides which were squandered.
Goal keepers from both sides made key saves at key times keeping their respective teams in the game.
The game remained even with Cambridge being the more clinical at short corners covering from 2, one a well worked deflection and one a second phase flick after another good save from Haunch.
Spalding continued to press, looking for a result, winning a short in the final seconds looking to end the season on a high.
The short corner was well converted by Jacob Baker slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
The game summarised Spaldings season well, being in contention in games but not quite covering the key moment.
No question however of the teams effort and persistence throughout the season.
Well done boys, see you next year 💪
