**Match Report: Spalding Ladies 1s vs Spalding Ladies 2s**
Newly promoted Spalding Ladies 1s faced Spalding Ladies 2s in the club derby . The 1st team showcased their attacking prowess while the 2nd team held strong defensively, particularly thanks to Grace Hodgetts outstanding performance at centre-back alongside Sam Maltby and Leanne Isaac Pick.
The match kicked off with the 1s taking the lead early on in the first quarter Honor Moore made an excellent pass to birthday girl and 1’s MOM Jess Ball at the top of the D, who then slipped it to Captain Charlotte Maplethorpe ,who tapped it under the foot of the 2s’ goalkeeper and MOM Char Burt for the opening goal.
The 1s extended their lead with a well-taken strike from Ellie Holland , whose shot from the edge of the D sailed into the bottom left corner, giving the 2s’ keeper no chance. Char made some cracking saves for the 2s team defending more flying balls from Ellie.
The third goal came from an excellent ball from Charlotte Maplethorpe to Honor Moore who quickly moved around the defence and sprinted towards goal, lifting the ball over the goalkeeper’s foot into the bottom corner for a clinical finish.
More goals followed from Ellie Holland Honor Moore to make it 5-0 at half time.
The 2’s came back from their half time team talk by Tim Maltby determined to keep the goal line to a minimum. However Spalding ladies 1’s showed why they are top of the league by adding two more goals, a brilliant ball through to Georgina Maplethorpe at the top of the D saw her finish bottom left corner and the final goal saw sister Charlotte score her second of the day.
Despite the scoreline, Spalding 2s remained positive throughout, creating chances when the very fast Erin McMurray proved a tough job to mark but unfortunately the 2’s were unable to convert. It was a dominant performance from the 1s, but credit must be given to the 2s for their resilience and spirit on the pitch.
Congratulations and best of luck to Spalding Ladies 1’s for the season ahead.
