Match Report: Spalding Men’s 4s vs Bourne Deeping 4s (22nd March 2025)
Spalding Men’s 4s put in a battling performance but fell to a 2-0 defeat against Bourne Deeping 4s on Saturday, 22nd March. Missing a few experienced players, Spalding struggled to find their usual rhythm but still managed to create chances, only to be denied by solid opposition defending.
Bourne Deeping started on the front foot, testing Spalding’s backline early. Lorenzo Mendoza, who was later named man of the match, produced a commanding performance in defence, supported well by Marco Mendoza, who made several crucial tackles.
In midfield, Andy Barlow and Dylan Hind worked tirelessly to control possession and transition the ball forward, while Brian Read provided support down the wing, pushing Spalding into attacking positions.
Despite Bourne Deeping’s early dominance, Spalding did create chances. One of the best opportunities fell to Fred Neal, who found space in the D but sent an aerial effort just over the crossbar.
Bourne Deeping made their pressure count, taking the lead in the first half with a well-placed finish after a scramble in the D.
Spalding came out stronger in the second half, continuing to push for an equalizer. Andy Barlow dictated play in midfield, while Dylan Hind and Dave Burrell battled hard to create openings. As Spalding pressed forward, Bourne Deeping capitalized on the space left at the back, sealing the win with a second goal on the counterattack.
Despite the result, Spalding remain 7th in the league and will be looking to finish the season on a high with a positive result in the final game next week against Wisbech Town.
