Spalding Ladies 3s vs Bourne Deeping 2s
On a cold, snowy morning, Spalding Ladies 3s faced Bourne Deeping 2s in a highly anticipated match. Spalding started strong, quickly taking control of the game with their effective ball distribution and solid positioning.
Bourne Deeping struggled to break through the defensive lineup of Kiki, Poppy Hooker, and Kelly Tizzano. Despite their efforts, a lucky break saw a Bourne player slip past the defense, winning a short corner and scoring from a deflection off a Spalding foot, putting Bourne in the lead 1-0.
Determined to equalize, Spalding played with finesse, utilizing wingers Jess Bail-Bedford and Jessica Pilgrim to penetrate the opposition’s defense and create scoring opportunities. Although Spalding earned several short corners, they were unable to convert them into goals.
Spalding’s persistence paid off when a well-placed pass across the goalmouth found Khloe Brewster, who calmly slotted the ball into the net to level the score at 1-1.
Goalkeeper Eliza Morris made crucial saves to keep Bourne Deeping at bay during one-on-one situations.
The first half ended with the score tied at 1-1.
Inspired by a motivational halftime talk from manager Sally Pilgrim, Spalding Ladies returned to the field with renewed determination. However Bourne were awarded a short corner, that resulted in a 16 hit out for Spalding. Terri Robinsons quick thinking resulted in a swift pass to Emily Wright who passed to a goal hungry Sam Foston, who navigated the ball into the D and assisted Khloe Brewster for her second goal of the game. This put Spalding in the lead 2-1. Much to Bourne surprise.
Spalding continued to dominate possession, with Chloe P and Wright contributing to several attacking plays. However, despite their efforts, they were unable to extend their lead further.
The match concluded with a 2-1 victory for Spalding Ladies 3s. This crucial win provided a morale boost as the team prepared for a challenging double game weekend, with fixtures against Ely on Saturday and St Ives on Sunday.
