SHC L2s 0 – 12 SHC L1s
Graves (4), C Maplethorpe (2), Moore (2), Timby, G Maplethorpe, Wilson, Cooper
In a clash of top versus bottom, it was SHC 1s who dominated the scoring whilst the 2s showed they continue to progress as a team.
With the 2s in home strip of maroon, the whites of the 1st team dazzled as they started the scoring in the second minute when Georgina Maplethorpe got a touch on Laura Graves’ goal-bound effort. Just 5 minutes later, Honor Moore opened her account to make it 2-0. With the goals starting to flow, Graves got her name on the scoresheet with two quick goals to build a 4-0 lead. Some good possession then followed for the home team, who earned a penalty corner and hoped to get a goal back, but the routine went awry and the opportunity passed. Despite some sterling tackles by Sam Maltby and fine saves by Eliza Morris in the maroon goal, two more goals followed with Moore slipping in her second before a diving Kelly Cooper got in on the act. 6-0 at the break where the 2s could find respite in their half-time oranges and make a plan.
Unfortunately for those in maroon, the second half followed a similar pattern to the first. This time it was Sophie Wilson who powered home to take the score to 7. Karen Timby then found herself in an advanced position to add her name to the scorers’ list and put the 1s 8-0 up. Still the 2s worked hard and the continued efforts of Lyn Sullivan and Erin McMurray on the forward line went unrewarded. Charlotte Maplethorpe was not to be denied and added two quick goals to bring up double figures. Camille Rogers was seen diving across the line to prevent another goal-bound effort from those in white, unfortunately this was not enough to bring an end to the goal scoring. Graves notched up her third and fourth to complete the rout and take the final score to 12-0.
An expectedly dominant performance from the “visitors” but a battling effort to be proud of from the warriors in maroon.
