Spalding set out to the fens with a positive mindset ready for the match ahead. Following a motivational brief from Steph, the ladies were eager to show their strength as a team. With the warm-up complete, first push won, Spalding were ready to start their first match of the 2025!
The ladies worked hard to maintain possession, but with a few early goals from Pelicans, the ladies felt a little deflated. Eliza (GK) made some amazing saves throughout, along with Sam’s excellant goal line clearances, both contributing to the teams morale to keep up the fight!
Steph and Lauren were strong in the middle and facilitated some great connected play. Along with some great runs from Lauren, Kate and Amy. Half time ended 4-0 to Pelicans.
Spalding received some words of wisdom from manager Mike and went out determined to try and secure a goal. Short corner was won by Vicky placing the ball on a defenders foot, and provided an opportunity to put into practice our new routine from tuesdays training, however sadly despite a direct shot on goal, we were unable to convert as it hit the keepers pads and deflected for a quick counter attack by pelicans.
Some great balls played by Grace from16yard hitouts up to Lynn and into space kept the attack going, and made the lead for some awesome possession at the top of the opposing 23. Eliza continued to make some exceptional saves. The game finished 9-0 loss, however the ladies were stronger then they have been and fought hard from start to finish.
