Match report
By Danny Wright
Spalding 2-7 Cambs Uni
Spalding did not have much of the ball early on against a Cambridge Uni team intent on keeping possession. Never the less Spalding took the lead on the counter after Glenn Richardson and the Uni keeper took part in an olympics diving competition which saw them both laying on the floor leaving Danny wright an open goal from 5 yards out to slap the ball into. Uni were angered by an unexpected deficit but it did not take long for them to respond ruthlessly with a lovely team goal to equalise at around ten minutes and then another well worked goal leading to a simple finish. Glenn should have scored after Danny set him up perfectly only for Glenn to think he was playing Cricket and hit the ball for 6 from the p spot well over the cross bar. They added a third with a few minutes to go before the break when Dave Burrell joined the diving competition scoring a 0/10 after diving flat on his face like a footballer this lead to Uni running up the other end with there rapid pace to score a potential back stick finish. It was then 4-1 early in the second half to another good goal and 5-1 when Simon decided to join the olympics this time playing football to kick the ball into his own goal from two yards out under little pressure. He redeemed himself with a strong slap from a short going in. Simon just couldn’t resist playing football and it was 6-2 when he decided to kick the ball of the line like prime Sergio Ramos to concede a flick which was well taken. For a moment it looked like there would be an Olympics boxing match as Glenn and Umpire Andy were not very happy with each other and in the end this saw Glenn sidelined for 2 minutes. It was then 7-2 as the theme continued with another well worked uni goal leading to a good finish from close range. FT 7-2 George and Willem played well.
