Spalding 2’s faced the challenge of local rivals Peterborough 5’s on a wet and blustery afternoon knowing this tie has previously been close fought.
Peterborough started with the pushback as well as more control as Spalding struggled to click together in the early phases of the game with Peterborough capitalising and breaking through the Spalding defence to take the lead. Peterborough doubled their lead with a sharp strike that flashed into the roof of the net. Passing into the 2nd half of the 1st half Spalding were able to finally start working the ball better and crafting chances and winning short corners with multiple shots challenging near the goal, but not hitting the desired target going into the 2nd half 2-0 down.
The second half proved more equal with chances for both teams going back and forth with Peterborough able to finish off a 3rd goal with Spalding unable to properly take their chances finishing the game at 3-0 to Peterborough with Spalding regretting their missed chances and slow start.
