On a funny weather day, Spalding took to Surfleet Hockey arena to play Norwich City, having not taken a win and without a large component of the team being otherwise engaged. Spalding started well and passed the ball around giving Norwich no chances on the ball, but unfortunately, were unable to capitalise on the chances. Norwich broke away and managed to get an early goal, which unfortunately opened the floodgates and Spalding heads dropped, meaning we went into the half term period 6 – 0 down.
After a half time pep talk from stand in captain Phil Callow and encouragement from Jason on the side-line, Spalding came out to the second half. Spalding started to pass the ball around a little more affectively and slow the game down a bit. Unfortunately to no avail, Norwich managed to score a further three goals, much to some great work by Oscar Haunch between the posts. With the final throngs of the game in flow, Spalding won a short corner and the final whistle was blown allowing the whole team to round the D for the last play of the game. Stu Cunnington put the ball away expertly past the Norwich keeper to give something positive to end on.
