Spalding Ladies 3s vs St Ives 3
One cloudy morning, Spalding Ladies 3s travelled to St Ives. Spalding’s youthful team started strong against the mature St Ives side. However, the stronger mature opposition scored within minutes. Youthful Spalding were not taken back by this and tried their best to score, often passing the ball to Elouise Doughty on the wing, who’s tireless runs up the left of the pitch were no match for St Ives. However, the oppositions solid defence stopped Spalding’s attempts on goal.
Game play was stop momentarily for a Red Arrow fly over. Once play resumed, St Ives were able to score 4 more times before half time. Making the score 5-0.
After a motivational half time talk, Spalding ladies were determined. However, the opposition were able to score again. Not to be stopped, Spalding came back and dominated the second half. A beautiful ball was passed to MOM Khloe Brewster who capitalised on this by slotting it passed the St Ives goalkeeper, for Spalding’s first goal!
Spalding found their stride, all be it late in the game, putting pressure on St Ives. But the opposition fought back and had a few shots on goal. Poppy Hooker performed an amazing save on the goal line, with a straight stick! To the crowd’s delight!
Minutes to the end, the opposition managed to score again. Chloe P was not fazed by this and took the ball, from the push back, round all of St Ives stunned players, to the attacking D. With a sly pass to a tenacious Kelly Tizzano, who passed it straight back to Chloe, enabling her to score Spalding’s second goal and the last goal of the match. This concluded the match, 7-2 loss.
Not the score Spalding hoped for, but the youthful team is growing from strength to strength every week and will bounce back. Next week sees the ladies playing at home, against City of Peterborough 4.
