Spalding Ladies 2s travelled away to play against Newmarket Ladies 1s, which despite the new team working well together resulted in a 4-0 loss.
Spalding had first push back allowing the ball to be played around into Newmarket’s half giving Spalding opportunities to win short corners and have a shot at goal. Great interceptions were made by Zoë Moore and Steph Wilson through out the game. However by the end of the first half Spalding were down 2-0.
After a restructure at half time and the team ready to make a positive attack against Newmarket, great connections in the midfield were made between Amy Naylor and Camille Rogers (today’s MOM) up to Lauren Spenceley and Lyn Sullivan.
Although Newmarket came back stronger, winning many short corners, these were well defended by Sally Pilgrim, Lauren Pitts, Sam Maltby and Charlotte Burt (making her debut appearance in goal). After all Spaldings hard efforts Newmarket managed to get 2 more shots into the back of the net taking the score up to 4-0.
After the game the team will come back together to understand how they will improve and be ready to come back fighting for next week’s game at home.
