29/12/2011 - Paul Howden

It is with great sadness that we report that Paul passed away peacefully in his sleep last night. Paul had suffered another heart attack very recently and his family were at his bedside in Pilgrim Hospital.

Just last season, Paul was our larger than life goalkeeper for the Men's 3rd team and was always keen to play whenever possible even though his health was failing in the latter years. Paul will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

30/08/2011 - International Summer Camp is an outstanding success

The Club's first ever International Summer Camp staged at Surfleet on 25th and 26th August was an outstanding success. Sixty young players aged 10 to 18 from SHC and other Lincolnshier Clubs enjoyed two days of intensive high quality coaching from ex England international Matt Taylor and his team. Matt, who currently plays for Beeston who are at the top end of the English Hockey League, was joined by goalkeeper coach, Ashley Watson from National League Doncaster and current England and Great Britain under 21 players Hollie Webb, Jo Hunter and Mike Scanlon who all play their domestic hockey at Beeston HC.

Despite the atrocious weather, particularly on Friday, the young players worked extremely hard over the two days and found the course both enjoyable and rewarding. Matt Taylor and his team were impressed by the attitude of the youngsters and added that there were some extremely talented youngsters present who were at the same time so coachable.

The coaching team presented prizes at the conclusion of the course to those individuals who they considered had made the most progress over the two days. The goalkeeping award went to Luke Barkworth (SHC) an dthe outfield awards went to Tamika Providence, Peter Gray and Robert Dalton (all SHC). The major award, a set of Matt Taylor's own brand of playing kit, went to the individual who the coaches considered had made the biggest contribution to the course overall and this too went to a Spalding player - 12 year old Samuel Sly.

Such was the outstanding success of the course that Matt Taylor and his team have agreed to return next year and the dates have been set as Thursday 23rd and Friday 24th August 2012.
