The final divisional match was set to be a close run affair following a win for Spalding in the away leg at Bury St Edmonds. Both teams started at full pace with end to end play, showing good passing skills and positional play. Chances were missed at both ends but eventually Bury took the lead through strong midfield play. Spalding continued to push and worked some great passes down each wing, and when Bury pressed defence was solid with Lewis Doughty, Oli Dring, Harry Blackman and Olly Baker making great challenges. Unfortunately during a scrabble in the Spalding D a foot on the line resulted in a penalty stroke which Bury took advantage off to make the lead 2:0. The team came back out fighting, showing true metal and eventually their effort was rewarded with a goal through play from Tom Bland and finished by Harry Naylor, 2:1 and half time. A positive half time talk saw the boys start as they finished the first half with strong play, passing and good communication. Spalding had the run of play but could not convert this into goals and unfortunately on a break Bury made the score 3:1. Spalding continued to press Bury at every occasion with the majority of possesion and this was starting to tell in the last stages of the game but the score remained 3:1 at the end. Overall it was a well mannered game and a positive performance from the team.
