Match Report

Spalding ladies played Royston away in perfect hockey conditions with the sun shining and a fresh clean pitch to enjoy. Spalding had numerous chances on goal again this week and looked slow to react in the first half with a very slow-paced game in general from both sides. With numerous attacking short corners being fended off by Spalding's defence of Frances Dalton, Lauren Pitts and Kelly Tomlinson, Royston were starting to look tired aswell now.

After the half time team talk, Spalding slowly started to pick up the pace and began to work harder making opportunities to put a score on the board. Grace Hodgett had some lovely runs showing her hunger for the ball. Amy Naylor and Hennie Boekestyn showed real enthusiasm and Naylor was very unlucky not to get the first Spaldng goal with a close miss from a nice flick in front of the keeper on her reverse. Spalding had more opportunities with short corners with some nice injections from Boekestyn. As always, some lovely steady graft from Roz Dennis and Meg Moore in the centre. Spalding began to look hungry again and really started to dominate in the last quarter when they knew they had to win this game. The sun shone upon the Spalding side when the final short corner injection from Boekestyn met Eva Keyes' stick at the top of the D and it trickled and bumped past the keeper to make Spalding victorious. Well done all!
