|| A sloppy first half display cost Spalding in this local cup derby eventually going down 4 2.
From Spaldings point of view although they had chances to score it never really came together and the game was won and lost when they fell 4 nil behind after 25 minutes. The first goal was gifted to Sutton when Rowbottom cleared a 16 straight to them and Cunningtons best efforts to clear the danger only resulted in a flick being awarded which was despatched past Callaby. The next two goals were carbon copies of each other when aerials were thrown centrally to onrushing Sutton players to slot home on both occasions. The fourth was controversially awarded when what seemed to be a high first strike glanced off Dan Needhams stick and into the goal. Protestations from Needham only led to him being sent from the pitch. Spalding did improve to pull one back before half time when a good passing move resulted in Needham slotting home.
The second half was a more solid display from Spalding however they were only able to trouble the scorers once with a fierce Cunnington reverse. Thus the game was to end 4 2 to Sutton, Spaldings own sloppy play and ill discipline in the form of two yellows and 3 greens aiding Suttons efforts.
At least there is always the plate to come.
