The Academy side took on a older Sleaford side on a cold crisp Friday evening and in a good game, saw the hosts win by a margin of three goals with a 5-2 victory.
It was good to see Jason Naylor picking up a stick in a competitive albeit friendly match for the first time in nearly a year and all being well he will be back in the 5ths sooner rather than later.
Ethan Pearson opened the scoring with a scrambled effort before James Mayhew's wickedly deflected effort went in off an unfortunate Sleaford defender who was standing wide of the goal to give the lads a 2-0 lead at the break. Spalding doubled their goal tally in the second third with Bailey Harker stabbing home.
The move of the match led to Spalding's fourth with a beautifully weighted through ball from Jacob Baker that found Frazer Watt on the right hand side and his stunning strike whistled past the Sleaford goalkeeper before he could even move; the First XI's would have been proud of such a move and goal, it was that good.
Sleaford scored a well taken goal in the final third to bring the score back to 4-1 before Ethan Pearson scored again with a very calm finish to make it 5-1. However to Sleaford's credit they rolled up their sleeves and they scored another deserved goal from a very good move to wrap up the game at 5-2 in Spalding's favour.
So a really good workout for the side and the final Academy game is against the Ladies 3rds on Saturday 5th December where a generational event may just occur......
